Nigeria's film industry is witnessing significant developments with the establishment and enhancement of film villages aimed at boosting local film production and providing world-class facilities for filmmakers.
Africhatta Film Village and Resort
Renowned Nollywood actor Ibrahim Chatta has invested approximately N1.4 billion to develop the Africhatta Film Village and Resort in Oyo State. Spanning 74 acres, this facility is designed with traditional Yoruba architectural elements, including thatched houses, to offer an authentic setting for film productions. Since its unveiling, the village has attracted numerous actors and filmmakers, serving as a hub for various film projects.
Abuja Film Village Initiatives
In the Federal Capital Territory, efforts are underway to establish the Abuja Film Village as a premier center for film production and entertainment. Ambassador Maureen Tamuno, the Group Managing Director/CEO of Abuja Investments Company Limited (AICL), is spearheading collaborations with the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) to realize this vision. The project aims to position Abuja as a leading destination for filmmakers, thereby boosting the local economy and creating job opportunities.
Furthermore, the House of Representatives Committee on the Federal Capital Territory has commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Dr. Maureen Tamuno for their efforts in reclaiming the Abuja Film Village site in the Kusaki-Yanga district. An inter-ministerial committee has been established to delineate the boundaries of the 3,000-hectare land and address encumbrances, such as unauthorized mining activities.
These initiatives reflect a concerted effort to enhance Nigeria's film production infrastructure, fostering growth and global competitiveness in the industry.
